Gospel X was the band’s first single and first Christmas song. The song was inspired by Magnum’s “How Far Jerusalem” and John wanted to write a “Inner Crusade, Tancred of Antioch mental journey version of that great song”, as John puts it.

The song was later rewritten to better match the Christmas single the duo wanted to release in 2019. The song was intended as B-side but ended up as the only track. “I loved the way she sang the song on her iPhone”, John says, “Lilou filled the lyrics with deep and pious emotion that I could never dream of. When she added that jazzy sound to the song I thought I was dreaming”.

The song had premier on streaming service Liberplay a week before Christmas 2019. “We wanted to create a Christian Christmas song where Santa had been replaced by the person that really matters on that day – Jesus Christ”.

The song was called “a classic in the making” by Swedish podcast host Magnus Söderman and renowned writer Fnordspotting simply wrote “Lilou & John are back!” Shortly after the release, Danish podcast host Mazzy called the duo “the musical scourge of political correctness”.

Lyrics

Why did you bring me the starlight
Sword and shield of the night?
Why did you ride through the ages
Pilgrim who carries the light?

Why did you give me the passion
A nephilim child of the west?
Tranquil, my heart is tranquil
Beating for peace in my chest!

How far is the ride to Jerusalem
The night ride to Betlehem?
Fly like the bolt of a crossbow
Ride for the children of men!

Why did you bring back the starlight
Why did you fight back the lies?
Is there a prize for the living
Or just for the dead in disguise?

Why are the murderers hanging
Like rags from my almighty sword?
Tranquil, my heart is tranquil
When I ride with the Lord!

How far is the ride to Jerusalem
The night ride to Betlehem?
Fly like the bolt of a crossbow
Ride for the children of men!

How far is the ride to Jerusalem
The night ride to Betlehem?
Fly like the bolt of a crossbow
Ride for the children of men!

How far is the ride to Jerusalem
The night ride to Betlehem?
Fly like the bolt of a crossbow
Ride for the children of men!
